[2.1] ERROR/SYMPTOM: ACR30S reader does not detect after upgrade WinXP to Service Pack 2
OS: WinXPSP2; Reader: ACR30S

Refer solution in 2.2

[2.2] ERROR/SYMPTOM: ACR30S unable to install on WinXP SP2
OS: WinXPSP2; Reader: ACR30S

CAUSE: WinXPSP2 does not support serial (non plug and play) reader.
When you install SP2, a service called "Smart Card Helper@SCardDrv", whose process is called "SCardSvr.exe", is removed. Simply put, without this service, non plug and play card readers are not able to function. The full description of the service is as follows :-
"Enables support for legacy non-plug and play smart card readers used by this computer. If this service is stopped, this computer will not support legacy reader. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start."
You may verify this information at a machine which is yet to be installed with SP2 by going to Start\Settings\ControlPanel\AdministrativeTools\Services\SmartCardHelper.

SOLUTION1: User has to revert to WinXPSP1 (using the system restore or re-install WinXP) if they still want to use with ACR30S reader

SOLUTION2: Use with plug and play reader (Models recommended are ACR30U or ACR30SP) if they want to keep the SP2.

[2.3] ERROR/SYMPTOM: Unable to install ACR20S/ACR20U on WinXP/2K

CAUSE: ACR20S/ACR20U does not supported on WinXP/2K

OS: Win98SE; Reader: ACR30SP

CAUSE: Your PC might have executed multiple copies of smart card server.

SOLUTION1: If you have installed the PC with multiple readers, check whether the drivers have reinstalled the same smart card server as a different name

  • Go to Start \ Run \ Regedit \ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Current Version \ RunServices
  • Check whether there are multiple copies of smart card servers running
  • If no multiple copies of smart card servers running, proceed to next solution

SOLUTION2:

  • Ensure the PC is clean from iVEST reader drivers
  • Reinstall driver

SOLUTION3: If above solutions fail, please bring your reader to iVESTRA Counter for further testing

[2.5] ERROR/SYMPTOM: PC does not detect reader or device error message

SOLUTION:

  • Connect the reader correctly
  • Install the correct driver
  • Check the device manager, program files and registry to ensure all the files are in the right directories. If not, remove driver and reinstall.
  • If using USB reader, try to interchange with another available USB port. Ensure that USB port is enabled in BIOS settings

[2.6] ERROR/SYMPTOM: PC does not detect reader after upgrade to iVEST Client 3.0

CAUSE: Only happen if you are using ACR20S or ACR30S. Reader driver has been uninstalled during software uninstallation (iVEST Client version 2.4 and below).

SOLUTION: Need to re-install reader driver manually

[2.7] ERROR/SYMPTOM: "Windows protection error" or "IFS Manager, Windows Protection Error" appears after reboot PC

CAUSE: This behaviour can occur when a when your computer loads or unloads a virtual device driver (VxD). In many cases, the VxD that did not load or unload is mentioned in the error message. In other cases, you may not be able to determine which VxD caused the behaviour

SOLUTION: Use USB readers. Ensure to remove ACR20S/30S drivers

CAUSE: In Win98, the power resources are managed by USB port while in Win2000, the power resources are managed by the operating system.
